Question 2

How do I pay?

Payment is made in two parts:
-  50% via WISE transfer at the time of booking
- the remaining 50% when the keys are handed over, by credit card, debit card or cash.

For travelers caught short with their bank card in Chile, it is possible to make a transfer to a French RIB. This is a special service we offer as a last resort.

Question 3

What driving license do I need? Is there a minimum age?

You must be at least 18 years old to rent one of our vans, and hold a B driving license. 
An international driving license is strongly recommended.

Question 4

Do I have to pay a guarantee?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you do have to pay a rental deposit : 
- the guarantee for an N300 is 1,800,000 CLP.
- the guarantee for an N400 is 2,000,000 CLP.

The guarantee is blocked at the time of pick-up with a credit card.  
Please note that bank cards issued in France are often debit cards, so check with your bank before you leave.

What is the cancellation procedure?

The cancellation fees are the following:

- If you cancel up to 30 days before the departure : 20% of the total amount
- If you cancel between 29 and 19 days before the departure : 30% of the total amount
- If you cancel between 18 and 7 days before the departure : 50% of the total amount
- If you cancel less than 6 days before departure, or no-show : 100% of the total amount
- If the vehicle is returned early: no refund available

Do I need a Chilean or Argentinean sim card?

Accepted Answer

It's important to obtain a Chilean and Argentinean telephone number throughout your trip, so you can be contacted in case of emergency. 
Sim cards cost around 3,000 CLP. We recommend the operators Entel and Movistar.  
You can buy them at Santiago airport.

Question 7

How do I go to Pucón from Santiago?

There are two ways to get from Santiago to Pucón :

- By plane : Fly from Santiago to Temuco, then take a transfer at the airport entrance (CLP 14,000) to Pucón.
 
- By bus : Take a night bus from Santiago to Pucón (very comfortable and more economical). 
The best companies are Turbus and JAC.

Question 8

Is the wind a risk in this region?

Accepted Answer

In Patagonia, the wind blows hard, so there's a risk of doors being blown off.
You need to be careful on this point, and remember to park facing into the wind to avoid damaging the doors. 
You should also be careful when barbecuing or building a fire in the wind, as this can quickly become dangerous.

Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?

Although the van is equipped with fitted sheets and blankets, we strongly advise you to bring sleeping bags, as the nights are cold in Patagonia. 
You can also bring your own sheets if you wish.

What kind of gas is needed for the van?

In Chile: 93
In Argentina: 95 
 
We advise you to fill up at each service station.
Don't overfill the tank if you're going to sleep right afterwards, to avoid gasoline odors. 
For a full tank, ask for "bien lleno por favor".
For a small fill-up, ask for "al corte".

What should the tire pressure be?

The tire pressure should be :

- 32 on roads
- 30 on dirt and gravel roads

Question 12

What is the recommended speed?

Accepted Answer

You need to drive slowly on gravel or normal roads (with potholes), as there's a risk of losing control of the van and having an accident, or of bursting a wheel or rim on a pothole (it's happened before).

Question 13

What are your recommendations on the road?

Accepted Answer

On the road, you mustn't stick to the cars in front to avoid shattering the windscreen. As the roads are made of dirt or gravel, the risk of catching a stone on the windshield is high. 
It's best to keep a safe distance to avoid any problems.
A windscreen costs between 150 and 200 euros.

Where is it possible to park during the trip?

It's not advisable to park in towns or to leave the van unattended in town, especially in Argentina, to avoid the risk of theft. 
 
You can park "wild" on roadsides or in the countryside. This is not possible in towns, on the outskirts of towns or in certain parks.

How do traffic lights work in Chile / Argentina?

In Argentina and Chile, the traffic lights are after the crossroads, so you need to stop before the crossroads and not at the lights, to avoid accidents.

How does the pick-up work in Punta Arenas?

Accepted Answer

We don't have a physical agency in Punta Arenas.

So we prepare your trip via video calls : 
- An initial videoconference is scheduled 1 or to 2 days before your departure to discuss and answer any questions you may have about your itinerary. The weather is the main element that will make your trip a success, as it is very changeable. 
This exchange will enable you to redo the itinerary according to it. This videoconference lasts about an hour.

- A second videoconference, on the day of the pick-up, to finalize everything.

How does the pick-up in Pucon work?

Accepted Answer

We'll take two hours together on the day of your departure to discuss your trip, answer any questions you may have about your itinerary, proceed with payment, take out a guarantee and inspect the van. 
The weather is the main element that will make your trip a success. 
It's very changeable, so this exchange allows you to redesign your itinerary according to it.
